L-R: Evette (front office), Caryn, Marvin (worked for Newman & Leventhal) and Ellen joined the Bunk 2 reunion on November 12, 2008. Caryn and Ellen were at Ma-Ho-Ge from 1968 through 1977 along with their late brother, Charles ("Chas").

Excerpts from remarks by Rich Klein, October 13, 2007 at camp

GOOD MORNING. MY NAME IS RICH KLEIN AND IT GIVES ME GREAT PLEASURE TO WELCOME YOU BACK TO MAHOGE AFTER 30 LONG YEARS..I’M MIGHTY GLAD YOU’RE HERE.

THERE’S AN OLD COLOR WAR SONG THAT TRULY EPITOMIZES THIS WEEKEND:

"We know that leaving time is near, but in our hearts, we remain here, Mahoge memories last forever."

Indeed, here we are 30 years later, and for some even longer, to share those memories, to reconnect with old friends and hopefully make new friends as well.

When I began the Ma-Ho-Ge website, my intent was simply to preserve a bit of the history and hoped that maybe in five or ten years, people would start finding the site. But I was so wrong.

Within just a few months, people began signing the guestbook and sending me emails regularly and it just seemed appropriate to organize two mini reunions last December.

These led to three more reunions..one in Florida and two smaller gatherings in Manhattan. Today, our list of Mahogeans is at about 225 and I’m sure it will continue to grow as people find the site.

George Pennell, the late great caretaker of Camp Ma-Ho-Ge from 1970 to 1977 and guardian of our beloved Color War plaques below. His son George, Jr. spoke on Oct. 13, 2007 about the family's love for Ma-Ho-Ge and how his father preserved these plaques when the camp was sold. Coincidentally, they were discovered by another Pennell, his son Mark, just two weeks before the 2007 reunion.

Mahogeans from the 50s, 60s and 70s came out to remember the good times at two mini-reunions held in December 2006. There were many hugs, ribbing, hilarious stories and lots of reconnecting for many hours -- both on Long Island and in Manhattan.
